2010 Fantasy Football Sleepers: Three Guys to Keep Tabs On

With about three weeks left until the NFL kicks off (finally) fantasy football drafts are in full swing! No matter what type of fantasy league you are in (points per reception, 2 QB, IDP, etc.) one thing that all teams need remains constant: points!

Finding fantasy sleepers in your draft is the best way to rack up the most points and dominate your league. While you might not be lucky enough to grab Chris Johnson or Adrian Peterson in your draft, here are three other fantasy sleepers to consider later on.

Arian Foster, RB, Houston Texans

Steve Slaton, the guy who has been given every chance to win the starting job as Houston’s running back the past two seasons, has an extreme case of ‘fumbleitis’ while the Texan’s second round draft pick from this past draft, Ben Tate, was recently put on IR with a broken ankle and is out for the season.

While this news might bum you out if you are a Texans fan, all I can see is room to run, so to speak, for Arian Foster.  Thrust into the role of full time running back, Foster will now get the golden ticket for running backs in fantasy football: Carries!

Steve Slaton will still see action, but I view Foster as a legit RB2 in all fantasy leagues with the potential to move into RB1 territory.

Dwayne Bowe, WR, Kansas City Chiefs

This special athlete from LSU underperformed and hurt many fantasy football owners in 2009. Bowe is poised for a breakout year, however, and everything is lining up for this to be true. Unlike last year when he showed up to camp out of shape mentally and physically, Bowe spent this past summer working at Larry Fitzgerald’s notorious wide receiver camp to get himself prepared for a breakout year.

Add Charlie Weis’ offensive system to go along with another year of working with QB Matt Cassell and I think Bowe is more than worth the risk as a WR2/flex type player with potential for a 1,000-yard 10-touchdown season.

Clinton Portis, RB, Washington Redskins

The former consensus first round pick in all fantasy football drafts has now slid into fantasy sleeper status, based on a combination of his age, his performance last year, and other ‘vulture’ running backs in Washington potentially stealing carries.

The fact of the matter, however, is that Portis is Washington’s top back and will certainly get most of the carries (goal line and non). Yes, Larry Johnson and Willie Parker are currently in the mix for carries in Washington, but the reality of the situation says that Parker most likely will not make the team, and the presence of LJ will actually benefit Portis (and his legs) by taking some of the workload off of him and keeping his legs fresh. While Portis is no longer the stud RB1 he once was, as a RB2 or RB3 he should still prove to pay serious dividends.
